About Rachel Sandrella

I am very excited to tell you about my plans for this summer! I will be serving as an urban missionary with Love Thy Neighborhood, a social justice ministry that recruits people to work together and love people who are hurting in the inner-city. I am going to be living and serving with other Christian young adults in the west end of Louisville. Together with a local church, we’re committed to impacting our neighbor’s lives with the gospel of Jesus.

LTN pairs each Team Member with an existing partner ministry to serve in. I will be serving with a ministry called Refuge Louisville that exists to serve, equip and empower the church to engage refugees and unreached people groups in Louisville, KY. Refuge works alongside local churches to encourage and equip them to engage the refugees and immigrants from over 120 nations in genuine relationships. They also provide avenues in which the church can come alongside the international population and help provide with various resources.

I am excited to be a part of what God is doing through Refuge Louisville. Unfortunately, this wonderful ministry is understaffed. This is where my extra hands are needed. My service will help free up staff members to do more relational work with the people they serve and have more margin in their schedules. I will also pursue deep relationships with a handful of the people we serve as I live out the gospel among this community.

In addition to the 30 hours per week I will be at Refuge, I will also spend 15 hours a week building relationships with my neighbors and then another 15 hours a week on personal spiritual growth. This internship will strengthen my faith in Christ while also growing my life skills, relational maturity and help propel me on a path into ministry. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to both serve people in need and also gain professional work skills. LTN’s mission is to grow young adults into servant leaders and to help prepare them for their path into ministry. It will be a challenging, exhausting and enlightening three months that I look forward to sharing with you.
