Dear Friends & Family,
I am excited to tell you about my plans for this next year!
After 5 years of engineering school at the University of Louisville, I am finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I now have my Bachelor’s degree and am one paper and presentation away from having my Master’s! Throughout those 5 years a lot has changed in my life and I would like to thank everyone for the love, support, and endless encouragement I have received through that journey.
Throughout my time studying/stressing in school, I often found that my commitment to my faith was floundering. During my time at the University of Louisville, I learned about a great non-profit organization called Love Thy Neighborhood. In Love Thy Neighborhood, I saw a Christian community striving to love God and love others. Loving God and loving others are the two greatest commandments, and while they are easy to say, they are often difficult to live out. Through Love Thy Neighborhood, I plan to join a Christian community that will challenge participants to live out our faith for an 11-month period.
Love Thy Neighborhood is a ministry that recruits young men and women to work together in service to people who are hurting in the inner-city. With Love Thy Neighborhood, I will be serving as an urban missionary along with other Christian young adults in Louisville, KY. Together with a local church, we’re committed to impacting our neighbors’ lives in service as the gospel of Jesus Christ instructs.
LTN pairs each missionary with an existing partner service ministry. I will be serving with a ministry that cares for men and women who are experiencing homelessness. This ministry provides over 10,000 loads of free laundry per year, can store over 350 pieces of luggage for people living on the streets, provides a mailing address for over 2,000 people, and provides long-term rehabilitation programming. This ministry shares the gospel at every level of their work and seeks for each guest to know Christ personally. I will specifically be working with the thrift store social enterprise that partners with the homeless shelter. The purpose of this social enterprise is to provide real-world job experience for some residents in the shelter. In addition to the 30 hours per week I will work at my service site, I will also spend time building relationships with my neighbors. This internship will strengthen my faith through personal growth while also developing life skills. I’ll have the opportunity to serve people in need and to gain professional work skills. LTN’s mission is to grow young adults into servant leaders. It will be a challenging, exhausting, and enlightening year of my life.
As a Love Thy Neighborhood Team Member, my goal is to raise $9,900 to cover 11 months of service ($900 per month) for the costs which include housing, groceries, transportation, training, curriculum, etc. Anything you can contribute will bring me closer to that goal and make my mission possible.
In order to raise this amount by the end of my internship term (August 2018), I am asking you to prayerfully consider investing gifts of $25, $50, or $100 per month. By helping me raise support, you are enabling me to reach out to the hurting in Louisville and show them the love of Christ. I’ve made my personal commitment to the fund, but I need your help to reach my goal! Would you join me?
